NAL launches Phase One of Electronic Ag
Information System at Mississippi State University
In February 2004, the National Agricultural
Library (NAL), Missippi State
University (MSU) in
Starksville, MS
launched phase one of a collaborative pilot demonstration
project. DigiTop Plus
will provide the MSU faculty, staff and students and the researchers
and extension personnel at the Missippi Agricultural and Forestry
Experiment Stations and State Extension Service a service similar
to the already existing service the USDA employees have at their
desktops with NAL facilitated access to WWW agriculture and
science-related journals not previously available to the MSU
community.
The second phase of the demonstration project will
add more journal titles to the 70 core online journals. MSU will
work to establish document delivery and reference services
available from NAL. EBSCO
Subscription Services, an information and access management
vendor, will be an important partner in this second phase of the
demonstration project. EBSCO will work with NAL and MSU to license
the electronic journals and databases and to integrate MSU’s
electronic resources with NAL’s
AGRICOLA database.
With successful completion of the pilot project,
NAL hopes to extend DigiTop Plus to other colleges and universities
with agricultural programs.
