One intriguing new approach to information sharing among people
with like-minded interests is social
bookmarking. The Wikipedia defines social bookmarking as "activity
performed over a computer network that allows users to save and
categorize a personal collection of bookmarks and share them with
others. Users may also take bookmarks saved by others and add them
to their own collection".
In conjunction with an IAALD blog, we are experimenting
with social bookmarks as a way to index and categorise agricultural
information - see http://www.delicious.com/iaald.
The list below is of recently added bookmarks to this account.
If others are interested
to join, they should open their own accounts on http://delicious.com
and begin to bookmark relevant web content of interest to the community.
For sharing purposes, it is important to use the same tags for items
bookmarked. Agreeing a core list of such tags - that could also
connect to established ontologies taxonomies - would be an interesting
task for a group of interested IAALD enthusiasts. Interested people
can contact Peter Ballantyne: peter.ballantyne AT iaald.org.
